IGS awarded monitoring, maintenance and conservation of the measures contained in the draft affected land compensation and corrective measures of the construction of the dam La Breña II, in the province of Cordoba.
The Board of Directors of the state-owned Water Basins of Spain (Acuaes) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has awarded more than 1.2 million euros monitoring, maintenance and conservation of the measures envisaged in the project compensation of land affected and corrective measures of the construction of the dam of la Brena II (Córdoba).
The winning company for a period of two years, has been South Engineering and Management, S. L., although there is the possibility to extend the contract annually for up to four years.
The offset project land affected by the construction of the dam of La Brena II, which includes an area of 2,134 hectares, was to territorially compensate the possible effects caused by the construction of the dam and watched a series of actions for recovery populations of flora and fauna.
Specifically, the following measures have been implemented:
- Performances on vegetation: creation of plant structures with different structural types, revegetation of ponds and firebreaks areas.
- Performances on wildlife: construction of permanent fences for extensive breeding rabbits and breeding areas, including both the total number of majanos amounts to 1,097. Installing drinking and feeding rabbit, placing nesting boxes for bats, installation of nesting boxes for raptors and insectivorous birds, signaling wire for raptors, creation and improvement of ponds for amphibians, building dovecotes saw and installation steps amphibians.
- Infrastructure and other activities: closing of roads, cattle grids, construction of speed bumps, guardhouses, cleaning of springs and enclosures.
Finally, among the compensatory measures necessary to emphasize the management of a botanical garden, about 3 hectares and an interpretation center.
